denmark, Faroese man, rape conviction

KVF reports that a 30-year-old Faroese man has been sentenced to three years and three months in prison for gross rape by Hjørring Court in Denmark.

The rape took place in Frederikshavn in March 2024, according to the ruling. The man was convicted of tying up the woman and rendering her unconscious with turpentine.

He must also pay the woman 50,000 kroner in compensation. He was remanded in custody after the verdict.

The man denies the charge and said the sexual intercourse was consensual. He has not yet decided whether to appeal the verdict.

He had been wanted for a long time earlier this summer but told the court he was unaware of it. He said he had been at sea and had not followed the news.
