Work on the Smyril ferry is expected to cost 200 million kroner, KVF reports. The estimate is cited by the Faroese Parliament’s finance committee in a report supporting a 74.4 million kroner allocation for four new engines.
The engines are due to be installed in 2028. According to Strandfaraskip Landsins, the ferry operator, the investment will extend Smyril’s service life by 10 to 15 years and reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs.
The entire finance committee supports the proposal from Minister Jacob Vestergaard. The bill is due for its second reading on Monday.
