Sky Lagoon has received the Höfuðkraftur 2026 tourism award, mbl.is reports. The award is presented annually at the Capital Region Tourism Conference and was handed out at Hlégarður in Mosfellsbær.
Höfuðkraftur recognises an organisation whose work and strategy have strengthened tourism in the capital region and had a positive impact on its surroundings and community.
The award citation said Sky Lagoon had quickly become one of Iceland’s most popular tourist attractions and one of the capital region’s main draws. It also praised the company for welcoming local residents and other Icelanders, including through messages in Icelandic.
The award is presented by the Capital Region Marketing Office, with tourism companies and organisations nominated for the honour.
Sævar Helgi Bragason also honoured
The Capital Region Marketing Office also gives one of its member organisations the Höfuðvin recognition each year.
This year’s recipient was Sævar Helgi Bragason, also known as Stjörnu-Sævar. He was recognised for his exceptional perseverance, stamina and hard work, which affected people across Iceland and played an important role in organising one of the largest events in Icelandic tourism in recent years, the total solar eclipse on August 12.
