Human error grounds ferry on Thyborøn-Agger route

Human error caused the ferry Kanalen to run aground on Wednesday morning, DR reported. The ferry, which operates between Thyborøn and Agger, remained stuck for more than four hours.

According to crossing manager Andreas Groth, the incident was caused by a manoeuvring error, or “human factor”. The 50-metre ferry ran onto a sand and gravel bank near the breakwater at Agger harbour at about 11am.

A rescue boat called Martha Lerche repeatedly tried to pull the ferry free. It was finally released at about 2.30pm and towed ashore.

Divers will inspect the hull for possible damage. The ferry may resume service on Thursday, but Groth said this had not yet been confirmed.

No people or animals were injured. Passenger Marco Möllenbech said his family had spent a long and uneventful wait aboard the ferry while on holiday along the west coast.
