Late defence submission postpones Katja Nyberg trial

The trial of former Sweden Democrats politician Katja Nyberg, who is suspected of offences including a drug offence, has been postponed, SVT reports. The prosecutor needs time to assess a late submission from the defence.

No new trial date has been set.

The prosecutor told the court that the defence had had since May to submit its statement, but delivered it on Tuesday, just days before the hearing was due to begin. The submission names new witnesses who were not interviewed during the preliminary investigation. It also includes an expert opinion that must be reviewed by the Swedish National Board of Forensic Medicine.

The trial was postponed at the prosecutor’s request because the preliminary investigation must be supplemented.
