Police in Western Uusimaa suspect a group of about 10 young people of assaulting people uninvolved in incidents in public places in Hanko during the summer, Yle reports.

The group includes both girls and boys, and its members are teenagers or young adults, according to police.

Police are investigating at least six suspected violent offences involving the group. The suspected offences are assault and aggravated assault.

Assault offences increase in Hanko during the summer, particularly in connection with summer events, because the number of people in the town is higher than in winter, police said. However, the violence attributed to this group is unusual for the area.

“The actions of these young people clearly differ from the phenomenon seen every year,” crime commissioner Mats Sjöholm said in a police statement.
