Two heavy vehicles collided on Highway 4 north of Rovaniemi on Tuesday morning, closing the road, Yle reported. The crash happened shortly after 9am about 15 kilometres north of the city.

At least one of the vehicles overturned, according to Yle’s visual journalist at the scene. Three ambulances, fire engines, police and a helicopter were there at around 10am.

Traffic was backed up for at least 1.5 kilometres to the south and the queue was growing. Road clearance work was under way at around 10.30am.

One lane was expected to reopen at about 11am. Until then, there was no detour around the crash site.

The cause of the collision was not known. The morning was foggy and cold, with temperatures near the scene reaching minus two degrees at around 9am.
