Liberals clear threshold as election night brings jubilation and poor results

The Liberals cleared the electoral threshold in the 2026 election, while other parties faced empty dance floors and historically poor results, SVT reported.

SVT’s summary of the election night highlighted five notable developments from the vote count and the parties’ election-night events.

The contest between the political blocs remained extremely close. The opposition initially appeared to be heading for victory in SVT’s exit poll, but a later forecast showed a dead heat, with around 20,000 votes separating the blocs.

By 1 a.m., SVT’s forecast put the probability of the final result at 90 percent.
