The main hearing in the case against Iris Helga Jónatansdóttir began at Reykjanes District Court on Monday. Two men and their daughters are among the complainants; mbl.is reports that Iris is accused of creating TikTok accounts that made serious allegations against the men. She denies creating the accounts and says she does not use TikTok.
Police found two TikTok accounts on her phone, according to evidence presented in court. Information from TikTok also linked one account to her phone.
One of the men was in a relationship with Iris from May 2023 to March 2024. She says she repeatedly tried to end it because he behaved aggressively, was unfaithful and treated her badly. She says she felt relieved when the relationship ended.
Iris is accused of turning up uninvited at the man’s home to see his daughter and repeatedly sending the girl messages containing insulting remarks about her, her father and his former partner. She is also accused of telling the girl that her younger brother was not her father’s biological child.
She is further accused of falsely telling the man she was pregnant by him and that he would not be allowed to see the child. Iris denies that allegation but acknowledges lying to him about not having had a termination immediately after learning she was pregnant.
According to the charges, Iris created two TikTok accounts accusing the man of child sexual abuse. The accounts also featured photographs of his home and his address. She denies doing so and says she does not use TikTok.
Iris is also accused of going to Breiðdalsvík, where the father and daughter lived and worked, watching them and visiting both of their workplaces. She denies this, saying she was visiting a friend in a neighbouring rural area. She says she did not know where the pair worked and believed the daughter lived elsewhere in the country.
She is accused of sending an email from a fake account to the daughter’s upper secondary school. The email allegedly made false claims that the daughter had behaved inappropriately towards male classmates and that she and her father had brought drugs into the school. Iris firmly denies sending it.
The second man and Iris met online and communicated but were never in a relationship. She says she met him only once, at a sports event he organised and she attended.
Iris is accused of creating four TikTok accounts that published 38 posts featuring photographs of the man and his daughter. The accounts accused him of sexual offences and violence against women, and also published photographs of him and his home address. Police requested information from TikTok about one account, and the company said Iris’s phone had been used to create it. She denies using the platform.
