Dalir road upgrades set to begin with Westfjords Road tender

Road improvements in the Dalir district are set to begin soon, mbl.is reported. A tender is planned later this month for the section of the Westfjords Road between Erpsstaðir and the Haukadalsá river in Miðdalir.

Improvements to the road through Saurbær are also planned for this autumn, with the work expected to be completed next year.

“The condition of Skógarstrandarvegur was discussed, and everyone agreed that paving the route is an important matter of interest,” Lilja Björg Ágústsdóttir, the municipal manager of Dalabyggð, said.

Representatives of the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration and Dalabyggð agreed at the meeting to establish a consultation group with representatives from both organisations. Its top priority will be to prepare a road safety plan for the municipality.

Other issues under discussion include road maintenance and safety, as well as winter services.
