SVT outlines key times for Sweden’s 2026 election

Sweden votes on Sunday, September 13, with polling stations opening at 8am and closing at 8pm. SVT has published a schedule covering its election broadcasts, voting and the first results.
Saturday, September 12
From 8am to noon, SVT’s Morgonstudion will air an additional pre-election programme on SVT Play and SVT1.
At 8pm, Skavlan and Sverige will broadcast an extended election eve programme on SVT Play and SVT1.
Election day
Polling stations will open across Sweden at 8am. Early voting will also be possible in some locations. SVT’s chat in the Duo app will open at the same time.
From 8am to 6pm, VALSTUDION will broadcast live from across the country on SVT Play and SVT1.
SVT’s election night coverage, VALVAKA, will begin at 6.15pm. Camilla Kvartoft and Anders Holmberg will host the programme, with Fouad Youcefi reporting from the voting screen.
Polling stations will close at 8pm, when the vote count begins.
At the same time, the first projection from the Valu polling station survey will be presented during SVT’s election night coverage. The projection will be based on interviews conducted at polling stations.
At around 9pm, SVT will present its new super projection, showing a likely election result.
At around 10.30pm to 11pm, the Election Authority will present an initial preliminary count for the parliamentary election, based on the electoral districts that have completed their counts.
Preliminary results for municipal and regional elections will be published throughout the night as counting is completed. The results will be available on svt.se, SVT Play and SVT1.
After election day
On Monday, September 14, SVT will broadcast live election coverage from 6am to 4pm and from 8pm to 9.45pm on SVT Play and SVT1.
During the morning, the county administrative boards will begin the final count. Ballots will be recounted and preference votes will be registered.
On Wednesday, September 16, the supplementary count will take place, also known as the Wednesday count. This includes late early votes and overseas ballots that did not arrive before election day.
