Unusually mild weather keeps winter hats off in Finland

Thursday 29th October 2026 on 05:01 in Finland

Finland, forecast, weather

Finland is experiencing unusually warm autumn weather, with temperatures rising above 10 degrees Celsius in the south on Thursday, according to Yle. In the north, temperatures are generally expected to reach 5 to 10 degrees.

Yle meteorologist Matti Huutonen said the weather bears little resemblance to a typical October. The night was exceptionally warm in parts of the north, while southwesterly winds are keeping daytime temperatures high for the season. Cloud cover will be extensive, but most of the country is expected to stay dry.

Rain is possible in the east and southeast, as well as in a belt stretching from the Ostrobothnia region to southwestern Lapland. The mild conditions mean heavy clothing may not be needed.

The mild spell is forecast to continue on Friday, with temperatures at similar levels. Drier air will move in from the west and north, bringing clearer skies, while occasional rain or drizzle may persist in the south and east.
