Party leaders answer four key election questions

Swedish party leaders gave yes, no or abstention answers to several of the most important issues in the 2026 election during the final debate, SVT reported.

The questions concerned whether food VAT should be raised to 12 per cent again in 2028, whether Sweden should adopt more ambitious climate targets than the rest of the European Union, and whether the age of criminal responsibility should be raised to 15 during the next parliamentary term.

They were also asked whether Swedish values should be required in order to remain in Sweden.

SVT said its election compass contains the parties’ answers to more specific questions.
