Terrier rescued after nine hours trapped under boulder in Jämsä

A terrier was rescued after spending nine hours trapped beneath a boulder in Jämsä, Yle reported.

The dog was on a hunting trip with a small group on Thursday near Lettojärvenkangas when it chased a raccoon dog beneath the boulder and became stuck.

The hunting party first tried to free the terrier themselves. After about six hours, at around 10 p.m., they called the Central Finland rescue service for help.

The rescue operation lasted about three hours. Rescuers moved the rocks using lifting cushions and eventually freed the dog.

The terrier was not injured and returned home for the rest of the night, although it was extremely exhausted after the operation.

A duty fire officer said similar animal rescues are not common, but individual cases occur from time to time.
