The Helsinki Court of Appeal has refused to grant further proceedings in appeals by rapper Milan Jaff and Milad Dehghan, leaving their convictions for aggravated defamation and the dissemination of information violating personal privacy in force, Yle reports.
The Helsinki District Court convicted the pair in November 2025 after they published information about victims of sexual offences that the court had ordered to be kept secret. Their podcast also discussed the victims’ health information.
Jaff was sentenced to 70 days in prison, while Dehghan, a Finns Party deputy councillor on Vantaa City Council, received a seven-month suspended sentence. They were also ordered to pay the victims 7,000 euros in compensation.
Both appealed to the Court of Appeal and primarily sought to have the charges and compensation claims dismissed. The prosecutor did not appeal.
The case was subject to the court’s leave for further proceedings system. The Court of Appeal first assessed whether there was reason to doubt the accuracy of the District Court’s decision. Three judges reached a unanimous decision not to grant leave, meaning the District Court’s judgment remains in force.
