RVK Bruggfélag wins silver in international beer competition

RVK Bruggfélag has become the first Icelandic brewery to win an award in the international Crack the Code competition, mbl.is reports. The brewery’s beer received a silver medal and 500 euros in prize money.

The competition is described as one of the most exciting innovation contests in the European beer industry. Participating breweries were challenged to create their best beer using NZ Rhapzody, a new hop variety from Clayton Hops.

RVK Bruggfélag entered Zódóma Hazy NZ Rhapzody IPA. The top three beers finished closely together.

The judges said Zódóma presented tropical fruit and stone fruit in a bright, citrus-driven style, with a clear and well-defined hop character. They described it as an exceptionally well-balanced beer and a highly convincing interpretation of the hops.

The brewery said the award was a significant recognition of Icelandic brewing and RVK Bruggfélag. The final keg of Zódóma was put on sale at the brewery in Skipholt on Wednesday.
