Faroes open 4,000-tonne blue whiting trial quota

Applications are open for 4,000 tonnes of the Faroese blue whiting quota to be used for commercial fishing trials in 2026, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The quota was allocated by Bárður á Steig Nielsen, a government minister, and may be fished in Faroese waters, international waters and the NEAFC regulatory area.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Fisheries, particular emphasis will be placed on the development and innovation value of the trials when applications are assessed.
The application deadline is noon on Friday, September 25, 2026.
