Police make no progress in Akureyri machinery vandalism case

Police in northeastern Iceland have made no progress in identifying those responsible for vandalising construction machinery in Móahverfi, a new neighbourhood under construction in Akureyri, mbl.is reports.

Skarphéðinn Aðalsteinsson, deputy chief of the investigative department, said the investigation was ongoing. Police have reviewed available footage, but it does not cover the area where the vandalism occurred.

Police have appealed for witnesses, but no one has come forward.

Two tracked machines and a truck belonging to contractor G. Hjálmarsson were damaged. Words including “loser” and “envy”, as well as a dollar sign, were sprayed onto the vehicles.

Hjálmar Guðmundsson, one of the company’s owners, said the vandalism had come as a complete surprise. He said the company was not involved in any disputes that he could connect to the damage.
