Water damage shuts new Sankta Frans school indefinitely

Severe water damage has closed the new building at Sankta Frans School, leaving about 130 students without classes, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The affected students are in grades seven, eight and nine. The building, which houses the upper school, was put into use just over two years ago.

The damage was caused by a fire hose that came loose. It is not yet clear why this happened, but the incident is believed to have resulted from a fault rather than vandalism.

Work is under way to contain the situation and assess the extent of the damage. Authorities are also looking for alternative premises, with the aim of having classrooms ready for the students next week.

Tórshavn Municipality declined to comment on the matter on Tuesday. Johan Syderbø, head of the Buildings Department, told Kringvarp Føroya that officials are investigating what caused the major leak and how extensive the damage is.
