FKA opens new year with Eimskip harbor tour

The Association of Women in Business, known as FKA, opened its new working year with an event at Eimskip’s headquarters at Sundabakki on Friday, mbl.is reported. The event was fully attended, with members learning about the company’s operations and touring the harbor area at Sundahöfn.

The participants saw Eimskip’s working environment and learned about the company’s digital transformation in recent months. They also travelled by bus around the harbor, an area that is generally not open to the public.

“The group’s management is based at the headquarters in Reykjavík at Sundabakki, and we went on a tour of the harbor area at Sundahöfn. It is quite a spectacle and not something people generally get the opportunity to see, so this was unique and interesting,” said Ingibjörg Salóme Sigurðardóttir, chair of FKA.

Andrea Róbertsdóttir, FKA’s managing director, said there was plenty to see at the site.

“There are several thousand containers in the area, and it is like being in a gigantic Lego set. It is impressive to watch this transport network, which is extremely precise because the cargo is sensitive, such as fish. The company is also continually improving, including by reducing its carbon footprint to keep pace with the new era,” she said.

Vilhelm Már Þorsteinsson, Eimskip’s chief executive, gave a presentation on the company’s development and succession plans. Other company executives also spoke at the event.

Networking was another focus of the gathering. Members were encouraged to meet outside FKA events and establish new business connections.

“The magic often happens through conversation over a good cup of coffee, and members are encouraged to meet and build connections over a good cup,” Andrea said. She also encouraged women to join FKA, adding that the association was beginning an impressive working year.
