Russia seeks unwitting collaborators in Faroe Islands, expert warns

People in the Faroe Islands, like others across Europe, should remain vigilant as Russia tries to recruit people to carry out tasks for it, knowingly or unknowingly, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Russia may be interested in obtaining more information about NATO ships in Faroese waters, said Tór Marni Weihe, an expert on Russian affairs.

However, Weihe does not believe the Russian threat to the Faroe Islands is greater than it has been previously.

Flemming Splidsboel, a military expert and researcher in international affairs, also said Faroese people should remain alert. Some people could be tempted for political reasons or by money and be lured through social media, he said.

The issue was discussed on the KVF programme Breddin.
