Drivers warned to take care during Hvalfjörður Tunnel maintenance

Cleaning and maintenance work will take place overnight in the Hvalfjörður Tunnel on September 7, 8 and 9, mbl.is reports. The work will run from 11 p.m. to 6.30 a.m.

Vehicles will be escorted through the tunnel while the work is under way, according to a notice from the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration.

Drivers are urged to proceed carefully and follow staff instructions. Cleaning may cause the tunnel surface to become very slippery, and drivers are specifically warned not to overtake vehicles involved in the escort operation.

Street sweepers, water trucks and lift vehicles will be working inside the tunnel, and road users are asked to take particular care around them.
