Police are investigating footage linked to the fatal crash on the Krýsuvíkurvegur road in which three young people died, mbl.is reports.
The footage, from the Life360 app, shows the speed and real-time location of the car before it left the road. Sævar Guðmundsson, chief superintendent with the capital region police, confirmed the investigation to mbl.is.
“Everything like this is, of course, examined. It is part of the investigation,” Sævar said.
Police are also investigating videos circulated on social media showing the car on fire. Sævar said it was difficult to control material that was shared online after the crash.
“It is never good when this kind of material starts circulating immediately after such a serious and terrible accident. It is not good, and it is healthy for no one,” he said.
The victims were two girls, aged 16 and 18, and a 20-year-old man. According to sources cited by mbl.is, the older girl was Irish and lived in Iceland.
