More than a century-old Marian Konditoria has filed for bankruptcy in Helsinki, Yle reports. The company makes bread, celebration cakes and pastries.

The company said on Facebook that the decision was driven by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, higher raw material and energy costs, and changes in consumer purchasing behaviour.

Marian Konditoria entered corporate restructuring in 2023 and took steps to improve the efficiency of its operations. However, the rise in costs became too great this summer.

The company said its bakeries and cafes will continue operating for the time being.
