Rail freight from Russia to Finland fell below one fifth

Rail freight brought from Russia to Finland in July was less than one-fifth of the previous year’s volume, Finnish Customs said, according to Yle.

Finnish Customs said EU sanctions imposed because of Russia’s war of aggression had changed freight traffic. Companies had also made their own decisions, it said.

Russia also raised tariffs on rail transport to Finland eightfold at the beginning of July.

According to Finnish Customs, energy imports from Russia have ended. In August, however, nickel stone and ammonia were still transported to Finland via Vainikkala, a border-crossing station.
