Faroe Islands advance plans to join Erasmus+

Plans for the Faroe Islands to join the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme are moving ahead, according to Kringvarp Føroya.
An application for approval will be submitted in early 2027 so the University of the Faroe Islands can join the programme in 2028, Minister Bárður á Lakjuni said in response to parliamentarian Bjørg Brynhildardóttir Egholm.
Á Lakjuni said the work was progressing as planned. He could not yet say how much participation would cost because negotiations were still ongoing. They are expected to conclude late in 2027.
The university’s international office will also be reorganised and expanded. Erasmus+ supports education, youth activities, leisure activities and sport.
The Education Directorate is seeking an information and communications officer for the Erasmus+ office in the Faroe Islands. The successful applicant will also prepare the Faroese contribution to the programme. The application deadline is September 14.
The national office was established in 2025 and currently has one adviser. More staff will be hired as needed.
