Rangárþing eystra names Hrafnhildur its municipal artist

Hrafnhildur Inga Sigurðardóttir has been named Rangárþing eystra municipality’s artist of the year for 2026, mbl.is reported. The announcement was made in Hvolsvöllur over the weekend during Kjötsúpuhátíð, a cultural and harvest celebration for local residents.
Hrafnhildur Inga lives at Sámsstaðabakki in Fljótshlíð and is originally from Vestri-Sámsstaðir in the same district. According to the municipality’s description, her work regularly highlights the nature of her home surroundings, with landscapes, light and weather playing a prominent role.
Other awards were also presented at the festival. Horseman Hans Þór Hilmarsson was named athlete of the year. The other nominees were Elín Kristín Ellertsdóttir in shooting, Andri Már Óskarsson in golf, Ívar Ylur Birkisson in athletics, Helgi Valur Smárason and Védís Ösp Einarsdóttir in football, and sisters Sigríður and Hulda Sigurjónsdóttir in powerlifting.
