Finnish pig farmers raise wild boar hunting grant to 300 euros

Finnish Pig Enterprises will raise the grant paid to hunting clubs for wild boar from 185 euros to 300 euros, Yle reports. The increase will remain in effect until the end of the year.

The organisation said the higher grant aims to intensify wild boar hunting and reduce the risk of African swine fever spreading.

“The disease situation in Finland has changed significantly. We want to strengthen hunting clubs’ ability to help manage the wild boar population,” executive director Ari Berg said in a statement.

The grant is paid to registered hunting clubs based on an African swine fever test sample sent to the Finnish Food Authority. No grant is paid for wild boar hunted inside the infection zone or to clubs engaged in commercial wild boar hunting.

African swine fever was first detected in Finland in late July 2026. On Monday, the Finnish Food Authority said the disease had spread farther than previously estimated.
