Finland, Left Alliance, police investigation

Yle reports that the police are investigating threatening messages posted on the X social media platform by a local Left Alliance politician. The messages targeted police, other authorities and politicians.

Police in Inner Finland said the messages were posted on Saturday. They did not identify the person who published them and said there is currently no concrete threat arising from the posts.

Iltalehti and Ilta-Sanomat reported that the messages were posted by Mika Tammi, a member of the Pirkanmaa Left Alliance district board. According to the newspapers, the posts included a death threat against Minister of Social Affairs and Health Wille Rydman.

Tammi’s X account currently displays a notice saying it has been suspended for violating the platform’s rules.

Veera Kiretti, chair of the Pirkanmaa Left Alliance district board, confirmed to Yle that proceedings to remove Tammi from the board have begun. She declined to comment further.

Kiretti told Iltalehti that she condemned Tammi’s posts and that the party does not accept violence of any kind.

Yle also contacted Tammi, but he did not respond to questions about his posts on X. He was elected to the party’s district board this year from Vesilahti.
