Karoline Mousing will open Aarhus Festuge on Thursday evening, following in the footsteps of some of Denmark’s biggest music names, DR reports.

The singer will perform at Bispetorvet alongside Karl William and Hans Philip at the festival’s opening celebration.

Thomas Helmig, LOC, Sanne Salomonsen, Tobias Rahim and TV2 have previously performed at the same venue, where opening concerts have become an iconic part of Aarhus neighbourhoods.

“I was really struck when you mentioned all those big names. I feel happy and excited about performing. It is a huge pat on the shoulder to be allowed to play at the opening,” Mousing said.

Mousing now lives in Copenhagen but originally comes from Randers. She readily plays along with the stereotypes and jokes about the city, including the idea that people there wear Nike Shox shoes.

“There is a lot of eastern Jutland in me. At least once a week, I am told, ‘My God, you speak so Jutlandic.’ That is lovely. I have especially been told that I do it a lot on stage. Then I become 20 per cent more Jutlandic,” she said.

Earlier this year, Mousing said during a performance at Spot Festival that she had never attended a festival until two years ago. Since then, she has performed at some of Denmark’s biggest festivals and has been described as a genuine comet with star energy in the Danish music industry.

She has already played major concerts at Smukfest and Roskilde Festival. This autumn, she will tour Denmark with eight concerts. Last autumn, she experienced life on the road while touring with Dos Santos, with whom she co-wrote the song “Urørlig”.

The experience taught her that touring is demanding and requires strict prioritisation.

“I know it is really important for me to have a routine and not put too much on my plate apart from the shows. You can quickly become pressured. But it does not feel like work. It feels like having a fucking great time every day when you get up,” she said.
