Finnish Defence Forces to buy more domestic FPV drones

The Finnish Defence Forces will acquire new domestically manufactured first-person-view drones for training in all its units, Yle reports.

The remotely controlled drones are flown by operators who view the drone’s perspective through FPV goggles. The Defence Forces has signed an agreement to acquire the systems from technology company Insta Group Oy.

The total value of the agreement, including options, is 14 million euros.

The acquisition is part of the Defence Forces’ long-term development of drone and unmanned systems capabilities. The organisation said the importance of unmanned systems in modern warfare has grown in recent years, and that it is increasing their use and training.

The Army began training conscripts at the Army Academy to operate FPV drones in autumn 2025. Since the beginning of this year, the training has expanded to other units.

FPV drones can be used, among other purposes, for reconnaissance and engineering and logistics tasks.
