Opponents of data centre projects are holding demonstrations in several cities today, calling for a pause to planned projects and tighter regulation, Yle reported, citing STT.

The organisers say new data centre projects are being announced rapidly, while the government and municipalities have not developed regulation at the same pace. Organisers include Elokapina and Metsäliike.

In Helsinki, demonstrators are walking past Google’s office to the Parliament building. Protests are also taking place in Tampere and Oulu.

The demonstrations are part of the Europe-wide Stop Dirty Data Centers campaign.
