The Finnish Consumer Ombudsman has requested a police investigation into the controversial mattress company, Lux Beds From North. According to a statement from the Competition and Consumer Authority (KKV), the company has failed to deliver mattresses ordered by customers and has not refunded payments after delayed transactions. The Consumer Ombudsman seeks to determine whether the company accepted advance payments without the intention of delivering the ordered products.

Since last year, the KKV has received over 130 complaints from consumers regarding this issue. Lux Beds From North is part of a network of interconnected businesses currently under scrutiny. The Consumer Ombudsman suggests that the operations of Lux Beds and its associated individuals should be examined as a whole.

The current CEO of Lux Beds is also a board member of Vita Talalay Finland Oy, which was declared bankrupt in July 2024 and had served as a subcontractor for Lux Beds. The Consumer Ombudsman is asking the police to investigate whether individuals associated with Lux Beds were aware of Vita Talalay Finland’s financial difficulties and how these impacted mattress deliveries.

In June 2024, the district court rejected the bankruptcy application for Vita Talalay Oy, suspecting that the company aimed to obstruct creditor collection efforts through a restructuring request. The owner claimed at the time to have done everything possible to manage the company’s debts and fulfill mattress deliveries to customers. Conversely, the company Sisuste Peltoniemi has been approved for a restructuring process.
