Mbl.is reports that roadworks will begin within the next few days at the intersection of Miklabraut and Grensásveg in Reykjavík. The project is intended to improve traffic safety, visibility and access for pedestrians and cyclists, according to the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration.
The work is expected to be completed around the turn of September and October. It is a joint project between the administration and Reykjavík City.
One lane at a time is expected to close during the works, which will be carried out in four phases. Drivers should expect temporary changes to traffic arrangements and are urged to follow temporary measures and pay close attention to signs in the area.
Improved street lighting
The plans include four new raised pedestrian crossings at the intersection, where traffic turns right from the main road through so-called right-turn bypass lanes.
Lighting will be improved with new light poles and street lamps for the pedestrian crossings. The central traffic islands and facilities for pedestrians and cyclists will also be upgraded, while new drainage inlets will be installed.
The work will involve excavation followed by surface finishing at the end of the project.
