Police have increased their presence in Tilst, an Aarhus district where residents are reporting growing insecurity after several stabbings and a fatal traffic incident, DR reports.

East Jutland Police say they have noticed the change. “We recognise that insecurity in Tilst has been rising,” deputy police inspector Mads Flansmose said.

The district, which has about 11,000 residents, has seen several serious incidents in recent months. A 25 year old was stabbed to death in May, and in June a woman was killed when a car being pursued by police crashed into her house in a residential neighbourhood. Another stabbing was reported in July, while residents have also raised concerns about open drug dealing in different parts of the district.

More than 1,500 new rental apartments have been built in Tilst over the past five years, increasing the district’s population by more than 30 per cent.

Police say they hear about residents’ concerns when speaking with local partners, visiting clubs and schools, and talking to young people in the streets. “We have to acknowledge that more and more people are experiencing insecurity, and we take that very seriously,” Flansmose said.

Local resident Tino Dainese has submitted a citizen proposal to Aarhus City Council calling for a form of neighbourhood police station at the district’s library. The proposal suggests staffing it with municipal safety guards and police officers who could respond quickly to disorder and drug dealing.

Flansmose said police had already intensified their presence and patrols in Tilst at the beginning of 2026. The district also has a dedicated local police unit that is present there more frequently than regular patrols.

Police statistics do not show that crime has risen sharply in Tilst. Flansmose nevertheless urged residents to contact police as soon as they see anything suspicious.
