More than 15,000 runners have registered for the Íslandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon, which takes place on Saturday, mbl.is reports. Only a few places remain in the full and half marathons.
“We encourage runners who want to secure a place in the longer races to act now, as only a few tickets remain for the full and half marathons,” said Hrefna Hlín Sveinbjörnsdóttir, director of events at the Reykjavik Sports Association.
The event offers four distances: a full marathon, a half marathon, a 10-kilometre race and a fun run. All races will start from the University of Iceland.
Different types of entry
Participants must have the correct registration for their start time and results. Those with competition entries take part in their distance and age category, and their result is recorded in the Icelandic Athletics Federation’s performance register. Their finishing time can also be used to register for other races abroad.
Those who prefer to take part without competing can purchase a general entry.
Registration for the competition categories closes at midnight on Thursday, while registration for the general categories remains open until race day.
The event’s fundraising campaign has raised more than 188 million Icelandic krónur for various charities so far this year. More than 2 billion krónur is estimated to have been raised for charitable causes since the campaign began in 2006.
