Fire crews were preparing to lift a trailer that overturned on an on-ramp from Reykjanesbraut onto Ártúnsbrekka on Wednesday, mbl.is reported. The truck itself has been separated from the trailer, which remains on its side.

Guðmundur Hreinsson, a supervisor with the capital area fire service, said a fire service pump truck was finishing after about two hours at the scene. The trailer’s oil tank was punctured, and firefighters worked to prevent diesel from reaching the soil.

“A lot of diesel leaked from the tank. Eventually, a vehicle from Olíudreifing arrived to collect the oil after we had pumped it into what are known as containers,” Guðmundur told mbl.is.

He said he did not know how much fuel had leaked, but estimated that the truck’s tank probably held about 200 to 300 litres.

Police remained at the scene while the trailer was being lifted. Hreinsitækni was then expected to clean the on-ramp. The truck was carrying a full load, believed to be stone wool.
