Finance Minister Daði Már Kristófersson says there will be consequences if it proves that Landsvirkjun’s board chair gave former chief executive Hörður Arnarson false information about why a meeting he requested with the minister was not held. The minister spoke to mbl.is.
In an email to the minister in October, Hörður said that in December 2025 he was told by board chair Brynja Baldursdóttir that Daði had requested changes to a meeting planned for January. According to Hörður, he was told the minister did not want him present and would meet the board instead.
Daði has rejected that account, saying there were two separate meetings: a regular meeting with the board to discuss governance, and the meeting Hörður had requested. In response to a query from Morgunblaðið, Brynja said the board had decided not to follow up on the meeting with Hörður because it considered it unnecessary.
Daði said he had not known of any dispute or been told how serious Hörður’s concerns about the company’s governance were. He said the meeting notice had not indicated a need for special follow-up, and the meeting did not take place after no further request was made.
Asked whether the dispute might have been resolved before it escalated if the meeting had taken place, Daði said it was difficult to speculate. He added that, based on his experience as a manager, it is usually better to meet early and discuss emerging issues before they grow.
