Crews were preparing to lift a truck trailer that overturned on its side on the ramp from Reykjanesbraut onto Ártúnsbrekka on Wednesday morning, mbl.is reports. The truck itself has been separated from the trailer.
Guðmundur Hreinsson, a shift supervisor, told mbl.is that a fire service tanker was finishing work at the scene after about two hours. The trailer’s oil tank was punctured, and firefighters worked to prevent diesel from reaching the soil.
A large amount of diesel leaked from the tank. After firefighters pumped the fuel into containers, a vehicle from Olíudreifing arrived to collect it. Hreinsson said he did not know the exact amount, but estimated that the truck’s tank probably held between 200 and 300 litres.
Police remained at the scene while the trailer was lifted. Hreinsitækni was then expected to clean the ramp. The truck was carrying a full load, which Hreinsson believed was mineral wool.
