Drivers face fines after traffic violations in capital region

Several drivers face fines after traffic violations across the capital region, including running a red light and using a lane reserved for buses, mbl.is reports. The incidents were recorded in the police log between 5am and 5pm on Tuesday.

Both of those offences occurred in the district covered by Police Station 1, which handles calls in Austurbær, Miðbær, Vesturbær and Seltjarnarnes.

Police Station 2, covering Hafnarfjörður, Garðabær and Álftanes, received a report of a workplace accident in district 210. The case is under investigation.

Officers also stopped three drivers in that district. Two were recorded driving at 130 km/h and 114 km/h in an 80 km/h zone and face fines. The third was driving despite having been disqualified from holding a licence.

Police Station 3, which covers Kópavogur and Breiðholt, received a report of a break-in at a storage facility in district 111. The case is being investigated.

Officers also stopped a driver using a mobile phone while driving. Another driver was stopped after travelling at 123 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Police from Station 4, which covers Grafarvogur, Mosfellsbær and Árbær, fined six drivers for speeding. They also received a report of a theft at a grocery shop in district 110. That case was dealt with at the scene.
