Car strikes bear cub in Juva, forcing authorities to euthanise it

A car struck a bear cub on Savonlinnantie road in Juva on Monday evening, Yle reported. The people in the car were uninjured.

The vehicle sustained minor damage to its front but was still able to continue its journey.

Hunters assisting police found the badly injured cub less than 100 metres from the crash site. The animal was a female cub born this year and had to be euthanised.

Police do not suspect a crime. The bear’s carcass will be sent to the Finnish Food Authority for examination.
