Sixteen people drowned in Finland in July, including two minors, according to Yle, citing the Finnish Swimming Teaching and Lifesaving Federation.
Seven of the drownings occurred while swimming, four while travelling by watercraft and one after a person fell into the water. The circumstances were unclear in four cases.
Eleven of those who drowned were men and one was a woman. The gender of four victims was not known.
Authorities were also notified of 43 dangerous situations in July in which people who had ended up in the water survived either on their own or through rescue efforts by others.
Preliminary figures show that 55 people drowned in Finland between January and July.
