Burglars break into Barnaloppan store overnight

Burglars broke into the Barnaloppan store on Köllunarklettsveg overnight, mbl.is reports. The store’s opening was delayed while police investigated the break-in.

Items belonging to the store were stolen, while goods belonging to tenants appear to be safe, according to Andri Jónsson, one of the store’s owners.

Andri is abroad and was not at the store when the burglary occurred. He said the owners were due to return home the following day.

“We have spent blood, sweat and tears, as well as a tremendous amount of time and work, setting up a new store and making it look really good. So the first task at the new location is to deal with something like this,” he told mbl.is.

Barnaloppan moved its operations from Skeifan to Köllunarklettsveg shortly after the holiday weekend. The store has security cameras, but Andri said he currently does not have access to the recordings. Police are investigating.
