Yle reports that police in Pirkanmaa are investigating several alleged sexual offences committed online against minors. A 26 year old man was remanded in custody by the Pirkanmaa District Court on 16 June.
Police suspect the man, on probable grounds, of offences including sexual assault of a child and possessing and distributing an image depicting a child sexually.
The allegations concern the suspect’s activity on several social media platforms. Police currently know of several dozen injured parties, all under 18. Police have not disclosed their exact ages.
According to the District Court’s information, the alleged offences took place in Pirkanmaa between 1 October 2025 and 12 June 2026. At least some of them occurred in Kangasala.
The preliminary investigation is continuing with analysis of digital material and interviews. The suspect remains in custody, said Tommi Juvonen, the detective chief inspector leading the investigation.
Police said they publicised the case to show that authorities are working to uncover sexual offences against children. They also urged people to report all suspicious contacts and tips to the police for investigation.
In July, police issued a warning about the risks associated with so called paedophile hunting. Juvonen said the current case has no direct connection to that phenomenon.
