Crowds fill Reykjavík for Gleðigangan parade

The highlight of Hinsegin dagar was held on Saturday, when the Gleðigangan parade took place through central Reykjavík, mbl.is reports.

The parade began at Hallgrímskirkja church and continued down Skólavörðustígur and Bankastræti towards Hljómskálagarður park, where concerts were held.

Árni Friðleifsson, assistant chief of the traffic department of the Capital Area Police, said the event proceeded peacefully, although large crowds were in the city.

mbl.is photographer Birta Margrét Björgvinsdóttir attended the parade and captured images of the celebrations. Police were present to help ensure that everything proceeded smoothly.
