Stevns overwhelmed by demand for larger recycling bins

More than 500 households in Stevns Municipality have ordered over 1,000 larger recycling bins, according to DR. The demand has surprised the municipality, which has had to order additional bins.

Residents can order the 370 litre bins free of charge through a municipal campaign. They replace the standard 240 litre bins used for recyclable waste, excluding residual and food waste.

One resident, Millie Boline Hovmann from Skørpinge, north of Rødvig, welcomed the campaign after seeing it on Facebook.

“The amount of plastic you bring home from shops has reached completely absurd levels. There simply is no longer enough room in a standard bin when you properly sort your waste,” she said.

Jeanne Wirenfeldt Johannesen, head of the environmental team at Stevns Municipality, said the campaign had been a great success.

The municipality does not yet know when all the bins will have been delivered, but expects them to be in place during the autumn.
