Fredericia removes bus advert promising a 100 percent orgasm guarantee

A bus advertisement featuring three vibrators and a “100 percent orgasm guarantee” has been removed in Fredericia after sparking criticism, DR reports. The campaign by sex toy company Sinful remains on buses elsewhere in Denmark, including Aalborg.

The advert showed three vibrators floating on a pink and purple cloud on the back of a city bus. It promised customers they were guaranteed to be satisfied if they bought one.

Several people in Fredericia said the image was inappropriate and crossed a line in public spaces. Palle Dahl, a city council member for the Denmark Democrats, said people who wanted to see such content could seek it out themselves rather than encounter it on buses paid for by the municipality and free to use.

Karsten Byrgesen, a former Fredericia council member and current first deputy candidate for the Citizens’ Party in Parliament, said he was offended by the advert and questioned how parents should respond if their children asked what it meant.

Henrik Sørensen, director of Out of Home Media, which sells advertising space on buses for local operators including those in Fredericia, said the advert was replaced after the company became aware that some local residents disliked it. The new Sinful advert was “a little less provocative”, he said.

Sinful intimacy expert Amina Jenayah said the company did not intend to offend anyone and believed the campaign could encourage conversations about sex, sexuality, bodies and pleasure.

She said the company followed the rules for advertising, but acknowledged that sexual products and sexuality could feel provocative or offensive to some people. The vibrator advert also ran on buses elsewhere in Denmark, including Aalborg, but Fredericia was the only place where it was replaced.
