Child seriously injured after being hit by van in Ås

A child was seriously injured in a traffic accident in Ås municipality in Akershus on Monday afternoon, Dagbladet reports. Emergency services are carrying out life-saving first aid at the scene.

“It is a very serious accident,” operations leader Atle Vesttorp of the Eastern Police District told Dagbladet.

The accident involved a van and a child, but the sequence of events remains unclear. The child’s parents have been notified, TV 2 reports.

Police were alerted at 4.06pm. Two rescue helicopters had arrived at the scene by 4.27pm, according to the operations leader.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration’s accident investigation group has been notified and is on its way. Police forensic technicians are also attending, Vesttorp said.
