Viðreisn parliamentary group chief diagnosed with sarcoma
Sigurjón Njarðarson, executive director of the Viðreisn parliamentary group, has been diagnosed with sarcoma and will take leave from work in the coming weeks, he said in a statement on social media reported by mbl.is.
Njarðarson said he developed pain in his side several weeks ago and sought medical attention. Tests quickly indicated that something serious was wrong.
He said the cancer has not spread and is operable. Surgery is planned once further tests are complete, which he hopes will happen within the next few weeks.
Njarðarson thanked his employers in the parliamentary group for their support. It has not been announced who will cover his duties while he is away. Svanborg Sigmarsdóttir, executive director of Viðreisn, has also served as the parliamentary group’s executive director during the current parliamentary term.
