The Danish government has acknowledged special exemptions for whaling in the Danish realm, according to a report from Faroese public broadcaster KVF.
However, the government also supports the EU Commission’s position to protect whales from unsustainable hunting. The government considers sustainable whaling acceptable.
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated in a response to the European Committee of the Folketing that there is a conflict between the interests of the Danish realm and the EU Commission’s proposal to the International Whaling Commission.
